Critter Volume 1 Chapter 9
Jordan woke from a horrible sweat. He jumped out of the hospital bed and fell to the ground. He was tired and drowsy from the meds and he couldn’t have been more confused. A woman came rushing in, he expected Lena, and to his surprise…it was nobody he knew, just a nurse who responded to the noises. Where was everybody? Why was no one here for him?
When Lena got the call she wondered what would be an appropriate reaction, and she decided to stay put and wait until Jordan was out of the hospital and alone so she could have her time with him. She knew one thing for sure, she did not want to start things up again with him…she loved Warren. Dead or not, she knew it was too soon to move on. Not to mention she had a hard time getting the picture of a half dead bleeding fake Jordan out of her head. She was exhausted…she had to get her mind off everything that had been happening to the town, Lena decided the best way was to burry her face in work…so she went to Mitch’s Bar to see if she could pick up a shift.
Clayton was at work; he was fixing up one of the gates to the pigpen when he received a call. It was Lauren. Clayton picked up the phone and decided now was not the time. He was trying to forget what happened and wanted to get back on track with finding his sister. Tyson approached him, “how are you?” he asked with genuine intentions, “not bad, trying to keep focused” Clay replied “look, we all have a lot of questions but were not going to find the answers we want, unless we find that girl” Tyson as referring to the mystery woman who appeared as a bird and somehow saved the day, it all just seemed too ridiculous to them. “I have an idea” said Clay “Promise not to say anything?” Tyson nodded “Mitch can help us…he’s gifted” explained Clay, “gifted as in Dayna?” worried Tyson “No, he’s nothing like Dayna, he’s a psychic” Tyson looked at him weird “I’m talking full blown crystal ball shit like in the movies, he can help us find her”. They wasted no time as they left to the bar.
Lauren carried a tray of drinks as she waltzed through the busy bar. She would have to be oblivious to not see every eye on her, after the BBQ disaster the whole town blames her for the mess. Some even point blame in her direction for the disappearance of Kelly and Warren, it was all just too easy, it was the towns way of putting everything to rest. When Clayton walked through the door with Tyson she almost dropped the drinks, they barely spoke since the incident, “careful Laur! Jesus!” yells Lena as she grabs the tray to keep from falling. “You need to go talk to him…now!” Lena yells. Lauren walks towards Clay, “Lauren hey! I’ll be right back” he walked past her like she was Casper the friendly ghost, she felt invisible.
Mitchell could not get his mind off of Ashley, where is she? What was that house? And why was it there? The last thing he needed right now was Clayton barging in with questions…but sure enough here he came. “We need your help…you know…help” Clayton pointed to his head “You told him!” Mitch yelled as he looked at Tyson who tagged along. “We have bigger fish to fry! We need answers and you can help us” Clay said. A scream let out from the dining room as a bird flew in through the door that was left open. Lauren immediately recognized the bird as she set down her tray and ran to the back room, Lena stayed to calm down the guests. The bird flew right into Mitchell’s office and perched onto his chair. Lauren, Clayton, Mitch and Tyson ran into the office and shut the door “Alright let’s go…. turn into a hot chick now! Yelled Mitch. The bird flew up in the air and came back down as a naked woman. “Whoa! Here take this” yelled Lauren as she handed her a blanket from Mitch’s desk chair. “I hear you all want some answers?” She said. “My Name is Natasha and your welcome by the way”.
What sounded like a Violin solo played in the back ground as a group of woman in long dresses sat in tree limbs, cross legged on the ground and some standing with their arms crossed. They were waiting for something, for someone. A woman with long blonde hair approached the stand. She stood in front of the group and waved her hands in the air…the beautiful melody that sounded like a violin but was actually the sounds of nature composing for the group. It was clear that the group was in touch with the earth as the birds flew away literally as if they just performed a concert for the ladies. The woman standing in front of them began to speak “We all know why this meeting was called to order…please everyone stand as he approaches” the woman stepped aside as a tall dark man appeared through the trees and walked in front of the group. The girls, about 7, took sea shells from their pockets and placed them on their hearts as they bowed their heads. “Relax, please, my daughters….sit.” the girls took their places as they held their shells in their hands. The man turned to the woman who introduced him “Thank you Kelly” Kelly nodded and placed her shell on her heart. The man spoke “It seems someone knows about us, the Mer people are not as safe as they once were, I know the importance of keeping you all safe, my daughters, the way I see it we have two choices, we move from this home and create a new one far from here or we silence the men who threaten our privacy, one things for sure…I will not endanger the secrecy of this group and I refuse to put my family at risk of exposing the Mer people, any thoughts?” The girls seemed to all agree as the man walked off to the edge of the water, Kelly chased after him “Your highness! What do you plan on doing to silence the men, they are your friends! If the other girls found out that we have, or had separate lives on dry land we may be exiled!” Kelly cried, Warren turned to her “I have made many mistakes, I should never have returned to my life on land but I needed the best of both worlds, the other girls wouldn’t understand they were born in the sea where as we, we started here…this is our home. However, I will not put our people at risk…we will figure it out Kelly….OH and please…for the last time…you can call me Warren”.
