Critter Vol.1 Ch.3 : Dear Clayton

Critter Volume 1 Chapter 3

It's 7am and Mitch's Bar & Grill doesn’t open until 9am, Clayton drives over in the hopes to have a chat with Mitchell the bar owner. Mitchell also rents out houses in Bon Temps for the neighborhood. Clayton had heard that he doesn’t charge much, which was surprising to him because he had also herd he was quite an ass hole. He pulls his truck up to the entrance, the sun had just risen, he squints in the window to see if Mitchell was in. There is a woman standing at the bar washing the counter, after Clayton knocks the woman uses hand gestures to point at the door trying to get him to understand that they are closed. The woman looks aggravated but she stomps toward the door, unlocks it and opens it up a crack. "Were closed!" yelled the woman! Clayton insisted "I know I just need to speak to Mitchell about rooms for rent?" the woman let him in "take a seat, he won’t be in for about an hour, can I get you some coffee?" "I would love some coffee, thank you very much uhhh" Clayton squints to read her nametag "Dayna! Thanks Dayna" Dayna nods her head and struts back into the back room to brew a pot. Clayton finally has time to think, he begins to recall the conversation he had with Lauren last night.

He was very confused about what Lauren said and didn’t really understand. She was so upset about what supposedly happened to Kelly. She came to Bon Temps and was looking for houses, she got a job at Mitch's Bar & Grill to pay the bills, and she was currently staying at a motel around the corner from the bar. She worked with Lauren so that's how they knew each other but Lauren said she had been hanging around the wrong crowd for a while; she had made friends with a few girls who had a bad rep with the town. Apparently their ancestors practiced black magic and they were burned at the stake or something like that. Kelly being the nice girl she was did what any stranger to the town would have done, assumed it was a legend and moved on with her life. Months went by and then Kelly began to seem frightened. Lauren said she had called in sick a week straight so she went over to the motel she was working at and wanted to make sure she was okay because she knew Kelly was all alone. Lauren looked in the window of a cab that was waiting out front, and saw Warren. He was really sweaty and nervous Lauren asked him if everything was okay and he drove off in a hurry. Kelly heard the cab leave she then opened the door and started yelling at Lauren for scaring away the cab. Lauren tried to calm her down, but she was very upset, there was no helping this girl. Lauren got back in her car and drove away, she figured that she had to come back to work eventually and that she would talk to her there. Kelly clearly needed time to calm down. The police showed up at the bar the next day to speak with Lauren because she was the last person to see Kelly alive. Kelly had gone missing and the cops were involved because before Kelly had disappeared, the owners of the Motel complained of loud noises and violence involving her room.

Clayton was obviously upset, and after his talk with Lauren he went straight to the police station, Officer Stackhouse informed him that the search is over because it's been three years now and no one knew anything about her. He filed a missing persons report and gave Kelly the proper identity. Clayton swore that he would never leave Bon Temps until Kelly is found. Clayton’s breath was taken away by how handsome the officer was but there was no time to think about this, he had to find Kelly. So many questions he had but no one to ask. Where could she be? Why wouldn’t she ask me for help? Is Lauren even Human? Clayton wasn’t one to believe in the existence of supernatural entities but he couldn’t ignore what happened between him and Lauren. She shot a burst of energy out of the palm of her hand that made Clayton pass out. He planned on confronting her again sometime soon. In the mean time he would focus on finding Kelly

After Mitchell agreed to allow Clayton rent out a small house on Fillmore Street, he ran into town to get keys made for Clayton. Clayton walked up to thank Dayna for the coffee he walked into the back room and could not find her, he saw that the tray she was holding had been sat down beside the back door. Clayton assumed she went outside for a smoke or something. He walked outside and he heard Dayna’s voice mumbling something from the bush. He walked up to the edge of the forest and he saw Dayna standing in the woods, many trees and bushes blocked her so he yelled her name "DAYNA?" no answer.

Clayton walked further in the bush tripping over branches and swatting away flies and bugs on his way in, he peeked through the trees and to his amazement he saw Dayna standing over top of Jordan. The man from before who tried to hurt Lena and Warren. Dayna was chanting something to Jordan and his eyes were rolled back to the back of his head. The chanting came to a sudden halt, she put her nose in the air and sniffed around. She turned her head and looked right at him, it startled him so he took a step back and tripped, then he got up and ran as fast as he could back to Mitch's. Clayton ran into Mitch on his way around the bar and he dropped his key on the grass, "oh! whoops! well, this is your key to your new place, I’ll be by to pick up rent at the end of the month" "thanks" said Clayton he grabbed the key off the ground and took off not saying a word about what he saw in the forest.

A 20 minute drive and he rolls up to his new place. It is very small but cute and livable. There is a grocery store not 15 minutes up the road and an appliance store right beside it. He didn’t pack much so depending on how long he's staying he will have to go shopping soon. He opens his front door and walks in. The stairs are immediately to the right and to the left is a small living space the kitchen is off of the living room with small appliances. Clayton see's a hand written note sitting on the kitchen counter, he assumes it's from Mitch but then realizes he would have no time to leave it there. He picks it up and reads, Dear Clayton, please leave town immediately do not come looking for me. I'm okay but you cannot stay here it's too dangerous. Please forget that I ever existed. –Kelly.
