Critter Volume 3 Chapter 9 : Unspeakable Things

“I feel responsible for her, Rachel has been missing for almost 2 days now and we have no leads!” yelled Lena as she paced around the room of Jasmine’s cute English style living room. Athena was sound asleep in her crib in the other room. The sound of Athena’s soft peaceful breathing through the monitor soothed Lena. “We could call the police, Lena, it’s not too late” explained Jasmine “and tell her what Jaz, A faceless man dragged her out of the front seat of my car and they disappeared? I think I have to call someone, there has to be someone in Bon Temps that can help me” she said. Just then Athena began crying “I got it!” said Jasmine as she walked into the other room to pick up the fussing baby.

Lena sat with her fingers running through her thick curls when she heard a knock on the front door. She stood up to answer, but it was kicked open. A man in a suit stood at the front steps “nice to finally meet you, Lena” he said as he ran towards her. She met him half way and pushed back. He fell backwards into a glass coffee table and smashed directly through. Lena screamed, the man stood back up and realized Jasmine standing on the opposite side of the room with a gun, she wasted no time. Jasmine fired at the man, when the bullet connected the man burst into black smoke. He then disappeared. Lena looked down at the ground; something had fallen out of his pocket. A folded piece of paper. She picked it up “what is it?” asked Jasmine “It’s a list, of names. Rachel’s is on here and there’s an address” she said as she gazed up at her cousin. “Well, let’s go get Rachel back, I’ll bring Athena somewhere safe”.

Lena remembered something Warren had told her before he died, if she ever needed help or protection to use the vile he left her. She rushed out the door with a note ‘take care of my daughter, don’t come looking for me’ she didn’t want to endanger anyone else. Rachel had saved her life before; it was her turn to return the favor. She got to her apartment and she found the box of Warren’s things she kept in her closet. She then pulled out a gun, she popped open the gun handle and inside a little secret compartment there was a vile of liquid. It was gold, and mesmerizing. Warren said to put a drop of it in water and it would give her what she desire’s. She went to fill up her bathtub. She could hardly wait, once it was a quarter full she added one drop of the golden liquid. It began glowing, and then appeared a wooden stake the size of Lena’s arm. The whipped it out of the water and left out the front door.

The address led her to a place far from civilization. It was all forest and bush, the sun was going down and she only had a couple hours of daylight left. She pulled up to a big fence, signs were surrounding the perimeter ‘Trespassers will be prosecuted’ they said. Lena immediately climbed over the fence, she ran across a small field when she turned around to see the fence she climbed over, it was gone. All she could see now were more trees. Her heart sank; she began yelling Rachel’s name “RACHEL!” over and over again until she heard commotion coming from a deeper part of the forest. Lena ran towards the noise, she stopped in her tracks when she came across a dead body, a middle aged man with blonde shaggy hair. She covered her mouth in fear and kept moving. She climbed over a slight inclination when she saw what was creating the noise. It was Rachel; she was in full combat with a blonde girl with blood all over her face. Rachel had a rather large gash in her arm, it was bleeding badly. Rachel then got the upper hand, she pushed the other woman up against a tree and punched her across the face, sending her to the ground “we don’t have to do this” Rachel said. Lena was about to stand up when she was dragged away by the same faceless man that took Rachel.

Lena thrashed her body around to free herself from the tall mans tight grip. The stake that she brought with her had fallen out of her belt loop and was a few feet away from her. The man had his hands firmly around her neck as he came closer. The fact that he had no face wasn’t even the scary part; the scary part was even without eyes Lena could tell he was looking into her soul. Just as Lena was loosing consciousness, a woman with long black hair ran past; it distracted the tall man enough to release from Lena’s neck. The man stood up and watched as the woman ran away “She lives!” the man yelled. Lena wasted no time; she ran to the stake and forced it into the man’s back. He fell to his knees as the wound began to grow. The stake fell to the ground and within seconds there was nothing but a rotting mangled corpse left of him. As soon as he was dead, the atmosphere changed, tree’s disappeared and everything seemed lighter. You could even see houses in the distance and roads with traffic. There was something about this guy that was keeping Rachel from escaping. At this point, rain was pouring down hard. Lena looked to see if the woman was still there, no sign of her. She turned to get Rachel. When she climbed the hill she saw Rachel lying on the ground and the blonde woman approaching with an axe “hey!” yelled Lena, the woman looked up. Rachel took this opportunity to kick her knee out, when she fell to the ground Rachel picked up the axe “sorry Xanthe” she said as she drove the axe into the back of her head. Rachel then fell to the ground crying. Lena approached “come on, let’s go home”.

Lena arrived back at her apartment, as usual all of Rachel’s wounds healed as soon as the man died. “That man had such power over you, what happened in there” Lena asked “unspeakable things” she replied as they headed inside. Lena walked towards her room; she put the key in the door and walked inside. She was greeted by Jasmine holding her baby. She looked past Jasmine to see Mitchell, Lauren, Clayton, Kelly and Ashley sitting in her living room. It was the most emotional moment she had experienced since Warren’s death. Lena and Rachel instantly began crying as they regrouped with their friends. After Lena had seen Lauren and Mitch, she realized Ashley was right, they were still alive. The group embraced in a group hug full of tears. Everyone was back together again.

After hours of talking, catching up and planning Lena was caught up to speed. The reason why Lena left in the first place was to escape danger, it seems like danger but it seems like with this group, danger is inevitable. Now that Lauren and Mitchel we’re back, there was no reason to stay in New York. She decided to go back home, where she belongs. The group would leave now, Lena would be back in Bon Temps in a week, after she packs all of her things and says her goodbyes. Clayton made sure he got what he came fore, the vile. Lena willingly gave it to him “you only need one drop” she said “save the rest, it’s valuable” she said. The group then said their goodbyes and left. Knowing that Rachel and Lena were safe was good enough for them. Rachel decided to stay with Lena until she was ready to come back, she could use the help. Lena waved goodbye as the group left for the airport “see you soon” yelled Lauren out the window.

The Next Morning

The group decided to sleep together in Lauren’s house, knowing that Kyle was still out there plotting against them could be dangerous. Mitchell had checked in with bar and made sure everything was in good standing, by this point everyone in town knew about Mitchell and Laurens return. They weren’t questioned, word got around that they were just on “vacation”.

Clayton turned on the shower, be placed the plug in the drain to gather water. He then dropped some gold liquid in the tub. The liquid began forming into something rather large. A wooden chest appeared in the bathtub. Clayton pulled it out with both hands and dropped it on the bathroom floor “guys come here!” he yelled as Kelly and Lauren rushed into the room. They opened the chest, and inside was a statue of the virgin Mary, a gold crucifix as well as various other random tools and specimens. On the lid of the chest, there was what looked like instructions painted in white. “Well, let’s get this exorcism started” Lauren said sarcastically.

“Why did you kiss me?” asked Mitchell to Ashley as were alone in the basement “I felt like I owed you at least that, you had feelings for me once, ever since you tried to save me from Kindred’s house. Things got in the way, but I really want to try things with you.” She said bravely “I’m sick of running from my feelings” she added “well, it’s not really a good time for me to jump into a relationship, however” as Mitch grabs her hand “I do still have feelings for you, we’ll just see where it goes, come on, let’s go join the others.”

Lauren read the instructions, besides the subject being exorcised, the conjure called for 1 male human, one female human and one virgin. Lauren thought long and hard about any possible virgins she might know. Clayton told her that Jordan had accidently turned a young woman by the name of Alex, it was possible that she was a virgin. Lauren hated the idea of calling for Jordan’s help, after what he did he deserved to be killed. If Clayton knew that he was responsible for Tyson’s death, I doubt he would still be breathing. The instructions also called for a host, someone or something that could hold the old lantern with the candle inside lite so that the spirit would have somewhere to go after it exited Kyle’s body. Typically they would place it inside of a rodent or something of the sort and then kill the animal.

There was still several hours of sunlight left, Lauren told the group of her plan to use Alex as the virgin. The group decided to head to Jordan’s house to propose the idea. When they arrived at Jordan’s, everyone realized how distant they had became with him “where has Jordan been anyway” Ashley asked, “I don’t know, I’ve been in Faetasia you tell me!” she snapped back. “It’s still daylight so we’re going to have to wake them from their coffins” added Clayton. The group walked in.

Jordan immediately smelt his friends, he shot out from his coffin” what can I do for you friends?” he asked “we need your help” said Lauren “We need to exorcise a spirit out of Kyle, Alex is the only one that can help us” Jordan knew this was a way he could make right for the crimes he has committed. “Let me wake her up” he said.

About an hour later, their ready to begin. First, they must call the spirit. “So I’m being punished because I’ve never had sex? Ya know most parents would feel happy that their teenage daughter is keepin’ it in her pants” she yelled as she took a seat. As the only two human man and woman, Clayton and Ashley took a seat down with them. The table was set up with candles lit; the Mary statue was propped in the middle. They held hands and felt an instant connection between each person. First things first; the spirit in question would be called. They needed a photograph of Kyle placed in the center. They chanted the words painted on the box, and just then something of great force slammed the front door open.  Minutes later, Kyle walked towards it, he walked into the room and sat in the empty chair. It was time to begin.

They had to draw a circle with chalk around Kyle’s chair, this way he wouldn’t be able to leave it. They began chanting, Kyle was flailing from one end of the circle to the other, he was clawing at his eyes and thrashing around. He then opened his mouth and looked above. Lauren remembered the lantern, “Jordan light that lantern!” she yelled. Jordan immediately lit the lantern “pass it to me!” she yelled, as Jordan reached over the table to hand it to Lauren who was standing on the other end of the room, she didn’t move, she just sat there and looked at him. It was then the spirit left Kyle, and went directly into Jordan. Jordan dropped the lantern and ran out the door. “JORDAN!” yelled Alex “The sun!” she screamed. Jordan ran outside and fell to the ground, his skin began to burn and within seconds he was fully engulfed in flames. He tried to stand up but he crumbled to the ground, Jordan was dead.

Alex hadn’t stopped crying since, the group was shocked and it hadn’t quite hit them yet that Jordan was dead. The sun was going down, the group tried to comfort Alex “Just get the fuck out!” she yelled. The group then left the building. Carrying an unconscious Kyle out with them. He them woke up “is she gone?” he asked “Yes, she’s gone, you’re safe” replied Clayton.
