The End
The Critter did its job, but it needed to be killed. Sandra
demanded that it be put to sleep and then let go into space, so we did just
that. Sandra took care of the sleeping part, and Mitchell took care of moving
it to the garbage shoot, using his powers of course, no one would be able to
lift that thing. During the fight, they saw Jessica and Dave escape on a pod;
they knew this fight wasn’t for them. The group wondered why they left, where
they would go. They seemed confident in their destination, which made everyone
wonder if maybe there was a Lettium home base somewhere on Earth, or any other
planet for that matter.
Sandra had proven herself to be trusted; the group had
quickly grown a liking for her and her crazy scientist ways. She took the group
to the hospital wing, where Chris was recovering in one of the rooms. Clearly,
Lettium wasn’t finished with Chris yet, and they patched him up making sure
that he stayed alive. Mitchell sat
beside his bed, as he lay asleep. Chris felt the warmth of Mitchell’s hand on
his, he slid one eye open “did we win?” he whispered, clearly taking a lot out
of him “yes Chris, yes we won” Mitchell smiled, happy to see that he had
survived.
Mitchell rolled Chris out of his room in a wheel chair;
there were nurses and doctors standing in the hallway pressed against the wall,
they were all smiling ear to ear. Sandra came towards them with a big smile on
her face “this way” whispered “why is everyone so happy?” he wondered as he
joined his friends at the end of a long hallway. Rachel smiled as she stood
along side Lena and Jordan. Ashley greeted Mitchell and held onto his hand
“because you freed them” Sandra said as she pushed open two giant double doors.
The group began walking out onto what looked like a balcony, they could see
across the way were more balconies. This must be where the people on the ship
live, they thought. When Mitchell, Ashley, Rachel, Jordan, and Chris walked out
they were greeted by applause, hundreds of people stood below them and on
balconies clapping for the group “you saved us from him, we owe you everything”
Sandra explained as the clapping and cheering became louder “how do we know
this is real?” Mitch asked “how do we know we’re not going to wake up again
someday and end up somewhere else?” he asked again as his eyes widened by the
amount of people “it’s real, trust me” Sandra said “as long as we stick
together, it doesn’t matter, let’s make the most of it” Ashley said with a
smile.
They had no idea what they would do, whether they would
leave the ship or stay aboard. All they knew is they had to honor the ones that
had died for this place did in the name of science. A day had passed since the
battle took place, it was time to say goodbye to the ones they had lost and
begin making plans for the future. Lettium had a priest on board who read a few
passages from the bible, thought not everyone believed in a god, especially
after what they had been through, it still brought some peace of mind, it felt
as if it was a proper goodbye to the ones they loved.
Mitchell was wondering the halls doing what he loved doing
most, thinking. The people on this ship, the people that Lettium, that Curtis
left behind needed a leader, someone to guide them in the right path. He was
interrupted by Ashley standing in front of him “it’s gone” she said with a
worried look “the book, that had all of our information, about our real pasts.
It’s gone” she said “I thought we burnt it” Mitchell added “someone took what
was left, maybe it’s a good thing” Ashley wondered aloud “maybe all we need is
right here in front of us” she said as she went in for a long passionate kiss.
It was that moment, that the ship began feeling like it could be home.
8 months later
Mitchell shot out of bed when he heard his pager going off,
it was only ever used for emergencies, this must have been important. He turned
over to Ashley, as she lay sound asleep beside him. Strawberry pop tart crumbs
were covering the coffee table next to her, the lamp was left on from when she
fell asleep reading ‘This New Place’ was the name of the book, seemed fitting.
Mitchell leaned over and kissed her belly, he rubbed it for a moment and smiled
while he sat excited to become a father, only a month away now. Their son would
be named, Warren, in honor of the bravest man Mitchell had ever met.
He got dressed quickly, throwing on part of the outfit he
wore yesterday mixed with clean underwear and socks. He ran down the hallway
“sir” someone said as he passed by “sir” someone said again, Mitchell did all
he could to wave at the men but he was clearly in a rush. “WHAT IS IT?”
Mitchell yelled as he burst into the captains cockpit of the ship “Captain”
yelled one of the pilots “it’s about the escape pods, we found one” the man
said “is it his?” Mitchell asked in excitement “we have video confirmation” he
said turning a monitor to face him “shall we send someone in?” the man asked.
Mitchell refrained from answering as he gazed into the screen at a photo of
Clayton, Kelly and Jason on earth, very much alive “no, don’t send anyone” he
said “I’ll go” he replied as he ran to suit up “OH AND CALL RACH, SHE’S GUNNA
WANNA COME ON THIS ONE” he yelled remembering how much she missed her best
friend Clayton.
Jordan sat up all night writing, he took to it when he
realized all that his friends and himself had been through would probably make
a good story, of course any right mind reading it would probably think it’s
complete fiction. The sun had risen, and Jordan was beginning to feel very
tired and somewhat weak, he noticed Lena had been in the bathroom getting ready
for quite sometime when the baby started crying “hush now Athena” Jordan
whispered while holding his daughter. Yes, we all knew the baby wasn’t actually
his son, but since Warren’s passing, Jordan and Lena had become closer then
ever. Lena treated Athena as their baby, not just hers. After all, Jordan was a
big scary vampire; Lena knew he could protect them. The only thing is that when
Lena was sleeping all night that’s when Jordan would be awake, and during the
day when Jordan slept, Lena was awake taking care of the baby. It all kind of
worked out though, thank god for space…. there really isn’t any concept of day
and night and the sun is never powerful enough nor is it ever close by to
effect Jordan, in a way this was the perfect place for him to live. Jordan only
slept when he was tired; it made it easier for him to father Athena.
At one point, Sandra thought she might have come up with a
cure for Jordan, a serum that would reverse his condition. He would no longer
be a vampire, but Lena didn’t want this for him, she wanted him to stay Vampire
at least this way she knew she and her daughter would be safe. A phone rang, it
was the kind a phone attached to the wall under a sheet of glass and it was
only ever used for emergencies. Lena always thought it was funny that even in
such a futuristic place, they still had a phone on a cord. “Hello?” Jordan said
weary of the answer “Jordan, it’s Mitch” he said “and?” Jordan expected more
“we found them” that was all he needed to say “on my way” Jordan slammed the
phone on the hook and began dressing. “Babe?” Lena asked curious of the
importance of the phone call “Lena, it’s them for real this time” Jordan
noticed a rather large grin painted all over Lena’s face “you going to get
them?” she asked while she was changing Athena on top of their king size bed.
“We’re gunna bring them home” Jordan passed by Lena and ran his cold hand across
her face.
Rachel was beyond excited to get Clayton back; it had been
months since they had departed from the ship and ever since they had been
searching for the pod. She had assumed that they left because they thought
everyone was dead, all they would have heard were gun shots so it would be a
hard decision to make but Rachel knew Clayton did it to protect Kelly and
Jason. There simply wasn’t a threat anymore although if they had survived this
long on Earth than maybe they found a safe haven somewhere. Rachel knew when
she got down there, the chances of them coming back to the ship were slim, she
hoped everyone remembered that Kelly was a mermaid, she needed water and that
was something that outer space simply couldn’t offer.
The ship being used for the travel was a detachable mini
ship on the bottom of the big ship; it was made specifically for small trips
like this one. The ship held about 30 people and has the ability to get them
there quickly and safely. Mitchell had organized the group that would be
attending the search and rescue mission, that’s what they were calling it
although most of them knew that it probably wasn’t a rescue, they seemed safe
wherever they were. Tagging along with Mitchell on the mission would be Chris,
Rachel, Jordan and Sandra. A tall man by the name of Dex decided he would lend
a helping hand. They had no idea what to expect upon landing, but they figured
they would simply land the ship apart from the site where their friends were
spotted, just to give them room to breath incase there was a threat they needed
to recognize. It would be a 2.5-day trip through the dark and dangerous
emptiness that is space “what are we waiting for?” yelled Rachel, who was
excited to see her best friend again.
Ashley stood at a large open window along side Lena. Ashley
kept one hand on her belly as she worried for her man. Lena held some comfort
in knowing that her man would heal if he was hurt, but if he came in contact
with the sun, it could be fatal. They both anxiously waited for their return
and hoped for a full house.
DAY 1
“So what did you do when Lettium ran the show?” asked
Mitchell to Dex “I was a technician, actually I was in the room when ya’ll were
attacked by Lettium soldiers” he explained “I was always part of the
resistance” the man sat with a thick southern accent “we tried to stop Lettium,
but we underestimated them” he added “well, thanks for coming with us” asked
Mitchell “I would do anything for you, you gave me my freedom” he said with a
stone cold look on his face “I should be forever thanking you”.
Mitchell still wasn’t used to it, the fact that he ran the
show around here now. These people looked up to him and his friends so
immensely that it almost scared him; he was scared of letting them down. He
often thought that if he couldn’t keep Ashley safe while he was in Bon Temps,
how could he keep hundreds of people safe, especially in Space….a place he
ironically spent over 50 years in but knew nothing about. Often times he would
wake up in the night in a sweat, he always told Ashley it was a side effect
caused by what Lettium did to them, but the truth was that he was still having
detailed dreams, just like he had in Bon Temps. The dreams always meant
something, it was the universes way of warning him. Some days the dreams would
be so simple and mean essentially nothing but other days it was the opposite.
Rachel laid on a bed while she was wrapping her tight blonde
curls around her index finger, she often did it when she was bored, it was
habit. She was bored, and this ship was fairly big so she decided to go for a
walk. She came across a locked room and remembered they were all given a master
key when they came aboard, in case any of them became separated on earth and
had to make their way back to the ship alone, they could get inside any room
with this key. Rachel entered the room and to her surprise it was a master
bedroom. King size pillow top mattress on a dark stained wooden bed frame, a
calming photograph of a sailboat hung on the wall along with a tall body size
mirror. A night table sat beside the bed with a lamp and book, the book had a
bookmark inside it was then she noticed the luggage sitting neatly beside the
table.
It was too late; whoever was staying in this room would know
she had been there because she wasted no time and immediately jumped onto the
bed causing the breathtakingly beautiful tucked in sheets to become a mess.
Rachel had been assigned a cot, along with the rest of her crew so she wondered
who was staying here. “Rachel?” Chris asked as he came out from the bathroom
with no shirt on “of, Chris are you staying here?” she asked “I’m sorry, I
really had no idea. How come you get the master bedroom? Huh?” she said
sarcastically “the doc suggested I sleep in here so that I can take care of
myself” he said “I’m still healing ya know” Rachel was instantly reminded of
the painful memory of Chris taking a bullet for them during the battle against
Curtis “Oh ya” Rachel said embarrassed “I’ll leave you alone then” she said as
she began to walk out “or you could stay and keep me company, we have a long
trip ahead” he said as he pulled a large bottle of red wine from his bag “deal”
Rachel said as she plopped back onto the bed.
The bottle was just about empty and Chris was still
shirtless “do you mind?” she asked as she nodded toward the bandage covering
Chris’s gun shot wound “not at all” he said as he placed his hand on hers and
guided it up his chest to the bandage, he used his other hand to take off the
bandage and Rachel felt the scar “does it hurt?” “Sometimes” he whispered “I
wish I could use my powers on other people; I could make you feel better” she
glared into his gorgeous brown eyes “ who sais you’re not making me feel
better” and it was then that they began kissing. Clothes came off not long
after and suddenly they became very thankful of each other, in a world where so
many of their friends had died, it was nice to just simply be.
DAY 2
Mitchell had managed to drift off to sleep, even through the
noise of his friends loudly playing a card game. When he fell deeply he knew he
would dream, this time was different though, his dream was really trying to
tell him something. He could see images of the ship exploding and crashing.
People were dying and there was no saving them and suddenly he was holding
Ashley in his arms, she was dead. This was enough to send him sending to
consciousness; Mitch threw himself from his cot and fell to the floor panting
and dripping sweat. “It’s the ship, it’s going to explode” he yelled. Rachel
ran to his side helping him off the floor “what do you mean?” she yelled back
“I don’t know yet” he whispered “we need to get everyone off that ship.”
“WE’RE ALMOST THERE!” yelled Sandra “I can see where we have
to land, they had already broken through the atmosphere and could see land,
they were fast approaching “HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS!” yelled Mitch as he
desperately tried landing the ship. They hovered over tall trees until they
found a small clearing where they could land safely, and they did.
No one knew what to expect from Earth, the entire reason
Lettium left was to escape the creatures that took over, so it was natural to
be feeling nervous. Mitchell had his abilities, which at this point no one
really knew what he was capable of. He started out just reading minds, and now he
can send energy from his hands. Rachel could heal, which was good for her but
what about the rest of them? Jordan could take care of himself, which we have
recently found out and as far as we know Chris was human, and ever since the
book (which revealed everyone’s true abilities) went missing, we really don’t
know for sure. One thing we did know for sure was that Sandra and Dex were
definitely human, so naturally they carried heavy weaponry.
Something whipped through the air; it was so fast that they
barely noticed it until Sandra hit the ground. Dex looked down to see a dart
sticking from her neck; it had put her to sleep. “RUN” yelled Dex after he made
sure Sandra had a pulse, and then he hit the ground not three steps away from
her. Mitchell was prepared to use his powers but it was hard when he had no
idea where it was coming from. Rachel hit the ground. Shortly after her Chris
went down. Jordan and Mitchell looked at each other, they gave up. Even if they
were to escape, how could they leave their friends behind? Jordan went down,
and then Mitchell.
When they awoke the next day the first thing they noticed
was that Jordan was missing “HEY, HEY!” yelled Mitch from a deep pit dug in the
ground. He yanked at the chains that were wrapped around his legs. Rachel,
Sandra, Dex and Chris were in the hole with him. A small boy poked his head out
from above, he seemed curious. He couldn’t have been any older then 6. “Hey
you!” yelled Mitch as he glared through the sun to see the boy “do you know
where our friend is?” he asked, “vampire go away so he won’t burn” the boy
said. Mitchell took these words and thought to himself If these people meant us any harm, they would have let Jordan die and
instead they saved him. “Can you send someone?” asked Mitch, and that was
enough to send the boy running off. He hoped the boy would return with answers
and soon enough, Mitchell got all the answers he needed. “You always seem to
find yourselves In some sort of trouble” said a woman from above, and when
Mitch looked up he could see Kelly. A face that warmed him to his very core
“KELLY?” you could tell he was happy to see her “here” she said as she kicked
down a rope.
Kelly grabbed Mitchell’s hand pulling him from the hole.
They embraced with a smile on their faces and tears of excitement falling from
their cheeks. Rachel and the rest of them shortly joined, Clayton and Jason
were nowhere to be found. Kelly explained as much as she could as she led them
through a small cave, which was hidden, by a thin waterfall. As they passed
through they saw the first piece of beauty since waking up after hyper sleep.
It was a large farmhouse that seemed like it kept going for miles. Wherever
this place was, they had clearly found paradise. A large silver wire fence
surrounded the property “it’s to keep them away” Kelly explained as she saw the
group looking at the prison looking fence.
Among the houses there was also a large body of water that
began in the middle of the property similar to a watering hole and wrapped
around behind the houses revealing even more. Fully grown trees whispered in
the wind and the sounds of chickens, cows and horses near by filled the air.
This place was perfect. Clayton and Jason came running from a large shed in the
distance, they had big smiles on their faces, and those smiles never faded.
It was a group of approximately 150 people, all living in
this sanctuary of beauty, surrounded by mountains and trees and blessed with a
lake of fresh water which made it possible for them to grow their own gardens,
and there were several large patches of fresh fruit and veggies, something that
they hadn’t had in space.
Eventually, a chat had to happen. Rachel, Mitchell and
Jordan sat in a small cabin in which Clayton and Jason lived, Kelly joined
them. “We thought you were dead, you know that right? We never would have left”
explained Clayton “you don’t need to explain anything, you have a family to
take care of. You did the right thing” explained Mitch “is it safe here?” Mitch
asked “The creatures don’t live very well on earth, turns out they can’t really
handle our eco system” explained Jason “there are still some out there, but not
many” they explained “This group took us in once we landed and we have lived
here since, in peace….finally” Clayton whispered “you could join us, we could
live here and thrive together, we could take back this planet” he added. “There
are hundreds of people on Lettium, I need to know that they will have a place
too” Mitch added, “we will take in all that we can, this place can handle more
than you think” Kelly explained “this can be home, we can finally say we
survived it all”.
The group had arrived back to the ship; their plan was to
discuss the possibility of a new and safer home for the people of Lettium.
Clayton, Kelly and Jason stayed back on earth after they refused to travel back
to space. Mitchell and the others liked the idea, but it wasn’t as simple as
packing up and leaving, they would have to bring the ship and all it’s
inhabitants along. Hours of talk had passed by and they reached a verdict, Lena
and Ashley were very excited about their decision. They had decided that
getting back to earth would be best for everyone. Lena loved the idea of Athena
being able to grow up on earth and have somewhat of a normal life down there.
Mitchell was sweating as he tightened his knot on his thin
green tie, Ashley walked up from behind him and wrapped her arms around him
“this is for the best, they trust you” she whispered as she kissed him on the
neck. The two of them shared a passionate lip lock “it’s time” she said as he
went in for another kiss. He then smiled and turned away and walked down a
hallway, the sounds of cheering and chanting became louder and more prominent.
He then swung open a big door and became present standing in front of the
hundred of people who lived on Lettium. He stepped up to the mic, he would be
telling them of the news. That they will finally be free of Lettium and that
they would have the power to control their own destinies. These people survived
a terrible tragedy, we all did. That’s precisely why Mitch wanted to be rid of
Lettium for good and going back to earth was the only logical way to do that.
1 year later.
It was a blissful day in the Haven, this is what people had
begun calling the place they lived in. It had been a year since Lettium had
landed on earth and not a single person had died, this was something the people
missed about life, they forgot what it was like not to live in fear.
Wedding bells were ringing in the air, today is the day of
Mitchell and Ashley’s wedding. The very first wedding to take place in The
Haven. Their new baby boy, Warren, would be right there with them, it was a
celebration everyone was looking forward too. After everything they have been
through it felt like they could finally take time to focus on their
relationship.
Mitch and Ashley loved each other so much, and it seemed
like it was a tad contagious. Lena and Jordan were happily together as were
Clayton and Jason. Rachel and Chris had become very close, some would say a
relationship had bloomed between them and honestly everyone saw it coming.
At this point The Haven had become a fully functioning
village. With a population of almost 400 people who work hard each and every
day to survive. The threat of the Critter’s was still out there but they were a
lot less common now a day.
Jordan walked alone through the beautifully decorated
outdoor wedding. He had something in his hands as he approached the gift table;
he then placed a book on the table. He had a smile on his face as he thought of
how much Mitchell and Ashley are going to love this gift; it was the story he
had been writing since they returned from Bon Temps. Jordan always called it ‘A
story of Love and Courage’ and he hoped that one day Athena and baby Warren
could read it and understand the truth about the world they live in and how
their parents survived and started a new life for them. Athena and baby Warren
could also be supernatural; this story would help them understand how special they
are. It was probably midnight at this point and Jordan’s day was just starting.
The wedding was set up and it was scheduled for about 9pm the next day. This
might seem late for a wedding but when a vampire is in the wedding party you’ve
got to accommodate. He was on his way towards the lake to begin gathering water
for the wedding when he felt a prick on his neck. Almost like a mosquito bite
but softer. He pulled something from his neck, it was a silver dart. His vision
instantly became blurry and he became unconscious within seconds and hit the
floor. A shadowy figure stood over his body as his eyes closed.
At this point it was around 10AM, no one had begun the
lengthy process of getting prepared for the wedding, and the group decided to
get together for a toast to start the day with good vibes and surrounded by the
ones they know and love. They all agreed to meet in the Lettium ship, which was
landed, and resting a few miles out in the mountains. When they arrived, they
were all taken back by the sight of the ship, it looked brand new, like someone
had polished it and fixed it up “did you do this?” Mitch asked Sandra “I wanted
it to be special for your big day” Sandra explained. Mitchell thought it was an
odd thing to do but he knew she thought she was doing a sweet thing, like the
ship was special to him or something, which it wasn’t.
They walked aboard and the lights inside were on, they
turned a corner and there was a giant ‘Congratulations’ sign posted on the
wall. Mitchell and Ashley smiled as Sandra pulled out a bottle of champagne
“where did you get that?” Asked Ashley as she smiled “I found it aboard while
we were cleaning, I thought it was an appropriate occasion” she said as she
popped the bottle and began pouring them into glasses “I’d like to say a toast”
Sandra said as she pored the last glass. “Cheers to the happy couple, you two
have honestly shown me what’s important in life” she said and the group all
took a big gulp. Lena, Ashley, Chris, Mitchell, Clayton, Jason, Kelly, Rachel,
Dex, and Sandra were all enjoying the taste of Champagne; one of the many
fruits of life they had to sacrifice after the event took place.
Mitchell then realized that Sandra and Dex hadn’t drank
their glass yet “you know it’s bad luck not to drink after a toast” he said as
Sandra looked over at him and dropped it on the floor “I don’t think luck has
anything to do with this” a cold voice said from across the room. Jessica and
Dave walked into the room dressed as if they were going to a business meeting
“what the fff-“ Mitchell tried to yell at the sight of the only two remaining
Lettium employees, but he couldn’t get it out. There was definitely something
in the champagne. Mitchell began getting dizzy. Ashley grabbed his hand and
fell to her knees and the rest of the group followed suit.
Dave walked in between the beds; the silver chrome beds each
had someone lying on top of them. “Their ready” Dex yelled as he just finished
hooking up Lena’s last wire to her wrist. Jordan had joined the group and
Sandra and Jess were holding Athena and baby Warren. The group was unconscious
and all hooked up to the same machines that sent them to Bon Temps in the first
place. “We can final finish Lettium’s work” said Jess as she rocked Athena back
and forth in her arms “Curtis would be proud” said Sandra as she gazed over the
people she tricked into trusting her for the past year and a half. Using his
large muscular arms, Dex pulled a big lever that started up all the machines.
“Time to go back” Dave said as he typed a few fancy numbers into a keypad “Dex,
wipe their memories and implant the new ones” he shouted. Dex grinned and began
walking past each of the beds and pressing a red button on each of their
monitors. “Sandra, I’m impressed. You made them trust you and the whole time
they had no idea” said Dave “time to go” he added. Just then Athena began
crying, “hush now baby girl” whispered Jess as she walked off with Lena’s baby.
“Do it” Dave whispered to Dex who ran to the opening of the ship and fired off
a flare gun in the air.
This was the signal to alert others in The Haven who was
working with Jess, Dave, Sandra and Dex to take over the little village. Just
then, several men took out guns and pointed it at the people, they would do the
same thing Curtis did when he was In power, ask people for their loyalty and in
return they would provide safety. Just like that, The Haven was no longer a
safe place.
Sandra sat with Dave and Jess “It’s ready, we can send them
back and I can continue to conduct my research” Sandra murmured “and they won’t
remember a thing right?” asked Jess “they won’t remember a thing, as far as
their concerned it’s just Bon Temps all over again” she added “what do we do
about the kids?” asked Dave “we raise them, they could be supernatural” Jess
said “I always wanted kids” She said “Will it be different for them?” asked
Jess “some parts may remain the same, but things will change a bit, not
everyone that was here the first time is here this time” she explained “it’s up
to their minds to create themselves, but we can guide them down the right path,
or the wrong one”.
…………Lena was finishing up her shift at Mitch’s Bar and
Grill, her belt pocket wasn’t as full of tips as she would have liked but she
knew she couldn’t complain because she knew no one would listen. She served a
plate of fries with a side of gravy to one of her regulars, Kindred, a sweet
old lady that always minded her own business. She then walked into the backroom
to sneak in a cigarette before she closed up and shooed away her last remaining
customers. She heard rustling coming from her boss’s office and out came Dayna,
a waitress that annoyed her more then anything. Her attitude sucked and Lena
knew she was sleeping with Mitch to clear any bar tabs she might have.
“Excuse me” Dayna pushed past Lena and Mitchell zipped up
his fly, he could see Lena staring into the office “can I help you darling?”
Mitch asked “no” Lena said as she darted outside. Mitch straightened up a few
stacks of loose papers in his office when he gazed up at a picture on the wall,
it was opening day of the bar and members of the town came to celebrate. He
walked towards the picture and removed it from the wall recovering a vault
built behind the picture. He opened the vault and pulled out a large glass ball
“what is that?” asked a man standing in his doorway “nothing” Mitch said as he
scrambled to put away his safe. “What can I do for you Jason?” he asked the
town sheriff “there’s a man here, he’s wondering if he could put up posters.
He’s trying to find his missing sister and I told him I’d get you to talk to
him” he explained “alright then” Mitch zoomed past him and was interrupted by a
man at the back door “I got your shipment here, want me to unload it into the
cooler?” “Ya that’s great Kyle, thanks!” Mitch yelled at his meat deliveryman.
“Have you seen my sister, Kelly?” the tall blonde man at the
bar asked “No unfortunately I haven’t” Lena then walked back into the room to
check on Kindred “Lena, you seen this girl before?” Lena took a long gaze at
the photo “oh, ya that’s Kelly, I know her.” She explained, “do you know where
I can find her?” the man asked “I’m sorry who are you?” she demanded an answer
before she gave out anymore information “my name’s Clayton, this is my sister”
he explained “my shift is over in a few minutes, I’ll take you there” Lena
nodded and took the empty plate fro Kindred’s table “I’ll drive, you can tell
you’re cab to go home” she said. Mitch
ran out and shoved his head into the window “Warren, buddy you can take off,
here’s 40 keep the change” he said “alright, I’m sure I’ll see ya soon” he said
as he drove off.
Lena and Clayton had been driving in silence for about 5
minutes “so where are you taking me?” Clayton asked “I know where she was
staying, a motel up the highway” she explained. The motel was dirty and smelly
and when they walked into the lobby the clerk at the desk was asleep on the
desk. Lena woke him up and read his nametag “Chris” she read it aloud “is there
a…” she waited for Clayton to fill in the blanks “Kelly Groulx staying here” he
asked “room 5” he said as he went back to his nap.
They knocked on the door and got no answer, Clayton was too
anxious so he busted open the door. There was a blonde woman passed out on the
floor, Clayton turned her over to see that it wasn’t Kelly “this is Ashley
Lundy, she’s a nurse here” “is she breathing?” Clayton asked “barely, we need
to get her to a hospital” Lena and Clayton carried her to the car. They arrived
at the hospital and was greeted by paramedics who took Ashley upstairs. “I bet
she knows something” whispered Clayton “So I guess you’ll be sticking around
for a while?” asked Lena “I have to” he replied “well, I have a spare bedroom
at my place” she offered “Me and my brother, Jordan, used to live there
together until he enlisted” she slightly frowned in the hopes that her brother
is safe.
They arrived at Lena’s house, the front door was cracked
open a tad, something wasn’t right. They kicked it open to see a woman standing
with her back facing them in the living room “hello?” Lena asked. The woman
turned around to reveal a large chunk of her cheek hanging from her face “Natasha?”
Lena clearly knew the woman from the bar “help me” Natasha whispered as she
lunged at Lena and Clayton. Clayton stumbled back and fell off the porch and
Lena began running down her driveway screaming, they then heard a loud gun
shot. A woman in a leather jacket standing next to a parked motorcycle took a
shot at Natasha’s leg. She then hit the floor “there’s something inside me” she
yelled as her bones began cracking, just then a slimy creature burst from her
upper chest “CRITTER’S!” the woman in leather yelled as she shot it splattering
blood all over Lena’s white bar t shirt. “Who are you?” asked Lena “I just
saved your life” she shouted as she put her hand out “I’m Rachel, nice to meet
you” she said. Clayton joined Rachel and Lena and the three of them stood over
the creatures dead body “you called it a Critter?” asked Lena “that’s
right…………a critter”.
Epilogue
Athena was excited to be celebrating her 16th
birthday, her mom Jess was always so obsessed with making sure her birthday was
always special. She hoped her mom would take her aboard Lettium, a mysterious
ship that was located a few miles away from where she lived. Her mom always
told her that she was forbidden to go there, that it was dangerous, but she had
seen others there before.
Athena’s mom was with her aunt Sandra preparing for the
party and Dex was hunting for diner. Athena thought to herself that she was too
old to be treated like a child, and she wanted to prove to her mom that she was
strong and fierce, so she would take Warren and go to Lettium to finally see
what all the fuss was about.
When they reached the ship, there were two armed guards that
they had to sneak by In order to crawl through an airway that was big enough to
allow Athena and Warren to get in. “I’m scared” said Warren “don’t be scared,
I’m excited” she would never admit that she was also a little scared.
The first room they ended up in was full of junk, boxes upon
boxes of old stuff she had never seen before. It was as if they were using the
ship for storage. They began rummaging through some of the stuff when Athena
found a book that was wrapped in paper and tied up firmly in a bow “look at
this” she whispered as she opened up the book. The title was called ‘Critter’
by Jordan Brisseau. She was intrigued by this hand written book and she had to
begin reading right away, she first looked at the back of the book and carved
into the bind of the book was written ‘For Mitch and Ashley on their big day,
and their beautiful son Warren’.
She would have normally taken time to freak out over
something like this but she was distracted by a scream “ATHENA COME QUICK!”
Warren yelled from the next room. She ran into the room and was frightened by
what she saw, there were people. They were breathing, hooked up to machines “I
don’t understand” said Warren “who are these people?” he asked again. Athena
said nothing as she walked up and down the beds, she looked up to read the
monitors “Clayton” she whispered “Kelly” she said again “Jordan” she then
remembered the book she found was written by a Jordan “Lena” she felt a strong
fascination with her, she couldn’t explained it. Then she saw them, the people
mentioned on the back of the book “Ashley and Mitchell” she whispered, “Warren,
I think these people are your parents”. Warren stood beside them and you could
tell by his face that he was very confused. Athena began walking toward the
back of the room, there was a big lever that was pulled up “hey Warren, what do
you say?” she asked and Warren gave a slight nod. Athena pulled the lever down
and the room became still, the sleeping men and women began gasping for air.
